Description

The Viennese Chair was one of the painter’s most favourite subject matters. It features strongly in his still lives throughout his career, and to which he often attributes anthropomorphic qualities. This is mostly evident in the titles of such paintings. The original title of this painting in Greek includes the word “Hazel” (“Η καρέκλα η Φουντούκα”) which denotes a female name and figure.
