Description
Catherine was a lady with a rather eccentric appearance, who used to frequent the painter’s atelier inThessaloniki in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The artist found her aura captivating, and asked her to pose for him three times during that period. This is the last portrait of the three he painted between 1987 – 1991. The title “St. Catherine” in all three portraits was given by the artist following her untimely death at a relatively young age honouring her memory and colourful character. Kostas loustas writes poignantly about Catherine in the first chapter (entitled “The portrait”) of his autobiographical book published by Ianos Publishers in 2005.
